Dr. Graber was born and grew up in the heart of the Willamette Valley in Oregon. He attended Oregon State University for 3 years and then the University of Oregon, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. He got his Master's Degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, along with completing and internship in Clinical Psychology at the American Lake VA Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. He has worked in the mental health field for over 30 years, with experience providing outpatient therapy to military personnel and their families at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Family Service Center in Bremerton, Washington as well as in-home family crisis counseling in a program funded through the State of Washington's Office of Children's Services. He and his wife (also a mental health professional) moved to Alaska in 1988, where he worked for 14 years as a psychologist at Anchorage Community Mental Health Services. During this period he was responsible for setting up and running the new 24-hour Community Emergency Mobile Mental Health Service Program. He also worked in the Geriatrics Services Program at ACMHS, Inc. and the Adult Services Program providing outpatient therapy and psychological testing services. Since 2001 he has worked in private practice, focusing on cognitive-behavioral treatment of outpatient adults, and psychological assessments for adults, adolescents, and children above the age 7.
He has extensive experience in the psychological treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, and post traumatic stress disorder from a cognitive-behavioral perspective. In addition, he provides psychological testing and assessments to assist with treatment planning, to help with the accurate diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and other mental health issues, and to provide mental health assessment for persons who are candidates for bariatric surgery.
He is a lifelong music lover who has played the guitar since the age of 7 and classical guitar since the age of 12. Over the years, he and his wife have greatly enjoyed being in Alaska and experiencing the estate with their dogs, which currently includes 2 Australian Shepherds.
