Frances Haering, LPA
Licensed Psychological Associate
Frances grew up in England. She graduated from the University of Exeter and then launched upon a lifetime of exploration, living and travelling extensively throughout Europe before discovering Alaska. She fell in love with our state, with its grandeur, its culture and its challenges.
She trained in the Counseling Psychology program at APU, completed an internship at Southcentral Foundation, and then received her Master's Degree in 1977 and became accredited as an LPA. Since then she has worked as a school counselor, with people with disabilities and with foster youth. She has taught in the psychology departments of both APU and UAA. She had been in private practice for three years prior to joining GCA.
She has particular areas of interest and expertise in mood disorders, anxiety disorders, grief and loss, attention deficit and behavior disorders, developmental and stage of life issues. She enjoys working with both adolescents and adults, and provides individual, couples and family therapy.
In addition to her professional accomplishments she is an outdoor enthusiast; she runs, cycles and hikes. She is an accomplished guitarist. She emphasizes the maxim 'healthy mind in a healthy body,' or mens sana in corpere sano, both in her practice and in her personal life. This philosophy led her to Alaska, to the field of psychology and even up Mount Marathon! And now she has found her way to GCA.
