Eric Garby, MD
Clinic Director & Psychiatrist
Dr. Garby grew up in the sun-drenched mountains of the front range of Colorado. Before responding to the call of medicine he engaged in an eclectic variety of pursuits, from teaching to traveling to working in a fish cannery to driving a cab!
He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado in History, minoring in Biochemistry. He attended medical school at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he was active in the Family Medicine interest group. He discovered psychiatry late in his medical studies and fell in love with it. He served his intern year at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, studying both Family Medicine and psychiatry. After one year, however, it became clear to him that, though he may admire family medicine, his passion lay in psychiatry. He completed his psychiatric residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, including an additional year of studies in a community mental health center, and then served as Chief Resident at the University of Colorado Psychiatric Hospital.
Since completing his residency program he has worked as a psychiatrist in communities in Idaho and Alaska, in both in-patient and out-patient settings. He served as Medical Director for Good Samaritan Counseling Center in 2005. Beginning in 2006 he established Greatland Clinical Associates, and has been most fortunate to participate in the care and wellness of the Anchorage bowl community ever since.
