Ann Yates, ANP
Advanced Nurse Practioner
Ann Yates is a Psychiatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) who received her BSN from Washington State University and her MSN/ANP from University of Alaska/Anchorage. Before obtaining her MSN/ANP, she worked for 14 years as an RN in various settings, including labor and delivery, chemical dependency, medical/surgical, public health, and psychiatry, gaining a wide range of experiences and knowledge about health, illness, and wellness.
She comes to Greatland Associates from Anchorage Community Health Services, where she has worked with much enjoyment for over 5 years. She also serves as Adjunct Faculty for the BSN program at UAA, teaching psychiatric clinical rotations at the Alaska Psychiatric Institute.
Ann is very interested in adding mindfulness practices to medication management for a whole and lasting recovery. She uses mindfulness practices that are straightforward and can easily be incorporated into full and busy lives, including basic yoga that can be done in a chair as well as on a mat, simple music and mantra meditations, and acceptance/reframing skills. Medication and mindfulness are best done with a good understanding of how our brains work and change in response to our life events, and this is something Ann includes in her practice. She is continuing to develop her training in trauma work that supports dealing with current problems that originated in childhood or adult trauma.
